Rumor, has it Head Coach Kim English will be leaving George Mason after only 2 seasons. It’s not official yet, but there’s a good chance he will be making his way to Providence College to coach for the Friars. I must say this doesn’t surprise me too much after technically working with him. As the sports editor for our online publication, part of my job is to sit for post-game press conferences where I would interview him and the players. I’ve heard from many members of the Mason athletics staff that he wouldn’t be there long, but I was expecting 4 years at most. I recently read a tweet where Coach English pretty much hinted, he wasn’t going to be serving as Mason’s Head Coach for long. The tweet stated, “He expressed exhaustion over the athletic department being satisfied with the status quo since the day he arrived.” Coming from the University of Tennessee, I always felt as if he never wanted to leave a bigger and better school. I tried investigating more on how exactly he was hired or what the circumstances were yet couldn’t find anything.
Nonetheless, if this is all true, I must say it was pretty cool getting to know him during his time at Mason. His success for the franchise should not be ignored as he continues to make a difference for college basketball as a whole.
