After a stunning 47 seasons, Syracuse head basketball coach, Jim Boeheim is stepping down from his role. After losing to Wake Forest from a buzzer-beater 3-pointer, finishing with a final score of 77-74. Adrian Autry, the associate head coach, will replace Boeheim.

47 seasons is a lot. If that were me, I’d be exhausted from all those games and keeping up with players. Syracuse is an outstanding basketball school. I hear it from the alum and cartoons such as The Looney Tunes Show. This change in staff will create a turning point in the history of Syracuse basketball. According to ESPN however, it would be up to the university to decide whether or not he is to retire. I feel like the loss was a sign to him to stop coaching for everyone’s benefit. I’m not saying he’s a bad coach. There’s a reason he’s coached for over 40 seasons. This is similar to how when professional athletes have been doing their sport for so long and lose when they’re old (hence Tom Brady), it is a sign to give it a rest. Even LeBron James knows he will only be in the NBA for just a few more years. No specific number but it’s safe to say he is more than halfway through his career. Nonetheless, Cuse won’t be the same without Boeheim.
